A fine addition to the Scottish music scene, Rachel Alice Johnson is a songwriter who is starting to grease the wheels after a busy couple of years which have seen her reputation grow. Her latest EP ‘2am’ is no different, and is perhaps set to offer her the biggest boost yet.
The reason, beyond the smart musicianship and well produced songs, is the subject matter. It’s not often (outside of R’n’B perhaps) that music is quite as openly sexual as this, but Johnson certainly isn’t shy about it here. Whether it’s a reflection of her as a person or simply a tool for the ‘protagonist’ of her songs there’s no real way of knowing. Either way, when songs are able to get your attention this quickly they must be doing things right.
‘Lights On’ is the single out now, as is EP ‘2am’.
