A full on soul singer with a rock and roll sound, Kelly Moneymaker is a US vocalist with one hell of a set of pipes. Her new album ‘Stone’ (see what we did there with the headline?) sees her on fantastic form as she channels some of the genre’s greats with her funky, rocky soul style.
Opened by the track above, the album goes on from there to ebb and flow in terms of pace – sometimes rocking full out, and others slowing for moments of reflection. In both cases, that vocal shines.
It’s the kind of voice that seems to emanate from the soles (no pun intended, this time) of the singers feet. And with the full band behind her she roars over the top with great aplomb. But it’s perhaps in the quieter moments, such as the suggestive ‘You Know How To Love Me’ that she impresses most. Controlled, pitch perfect and melodic, this is true talent.
